Subspace Deployment Method: separate node and farmer

Problem

Steps to reproduce

Download latest apr gemini-3d node and farmer packages
Start node with values as per docs page
Start farmer with values as per doc page
Open modem and firewall ports
Node syncs but slowly
Farmer does not plot, see attached screen shot
I am new to subspace as of yesterday but i still did a purge and wipe

For anyone curious i have a firewalla fw and by default it blocks all inbound connection attemps so only outbound stateful connections are allowed. Once i opened my server up to the world it started to plot, i did have to then add block rules for ssh etc just to be safe.

Maybe im not waiting long enough. Im getting like 33M plotted per 15min. Still getting the other warning messages.

Looks like this is just a warning, im not seeing any major Errors causing your farmer to stop, correct me if im wrong?

Farmer doesn’t stop, but it also doesn’t plot. My node isn’t synced yet but i thought i read you could plot while still syncing? Apologies if my assumption is wrong.

Try latest release and report back, please. Also I assume you’re running HDD with such capacity. If that is the case, it will likely be not feasible because consensus is optimized for SSDs and HDDs in most cases will be unable to produce blocks in time. Plotting should still work though.

I think its working. Getting 200MB write to disk in 30m or so. What is the plotting speed supposed to be?

I finished syncing and tried on both cli and farmer and neither plot anything. I get pretty constant dsn piece errors that i have to grep out. Now the only error i have is not enough pieces to reconstruct segment. Am i missing a setting for my node or farmer? Or even the cli application?

I found something interesting. In the startup logs for the farmer i have no logs for 0.0.0.0:9955 being opened. Is this a change from prior behavior or is sonething wrong with my farmer?

Hi @ImmaZoni any thoughts why i cant plot on either the simple cli or adcanced farmer? I see errors in the advanced farmer i dont see in simple. Simple just shows clock skewing. Advanced i have to grep out several logs. Will post an update with those.

Hey Preacher, sorry for the delay, my response from the otherday saved as a draft

I see you are using HDD’s as it stand our consensus has a favor for SDD’s as such the farming experience on HDD’s is not optimal and will provide various errors as you see here. I can suggest using a smaller plot for a little bit more luck with HDD’s but in the long run you will want SSD’s for the best farming experience on Subspace.

Farmers can get stuck at a particular sector and be unable to plot further, this is caused by networking issues preventing farmer from finding some of the pieces of history it needs. We are working on fixing that, but it will take some time.
