Loss of internet causes fast sync and then plotting crash

Issue Report

Environment

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • CPU Architecture: Intel x64
  • RAM: 32GiB
  • Storage: SSD
  • Plot Size: 10G
  • Subspace Deployment Method: Subspace CLI

Problem

If we start syncing via the CLI and then pull the network cable out of the machine (or lose internet in some other way) the node will sync super fast and then plotting will crash as soon as it starts.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start farming via CLI
  2. Disable internet connection in some way

Expected result

  • Node stops syncing until connection is restored.

What happens instead

  • Node syncs a lot quicker than expected and then the plotting phase crashes as soon as it starts.

The above is not my error, rather from another user who reported the same symptoms.

There is also an example of the fast sync behaviour and slow plotting with missing hashes rather than crashing after.

Thanks for reporting issue. It got fixed in subspace-cli v0.1.9. Can you upgrade it and check if it works for you?

No, I had that problem on version 0.1.9. Ubuntu 20.04

Thanks ivan looks like this issue is still present in 1.9 as per the user above.

Thanks for the report jim!

For anyone who stumbles across this post, we have escalated this issue to the developers but if you face this problem for the time being you can try the following.

  1. Stop and attempt to start your farmer once network is restored
  2. If you face errors with network you will need to wipe your node and farmer and start fresh.
