The First Trial of Innovation is Complete - Participants Have Crossed the Narrow Sea
As of Taurus consensus block 2,460,732, the Crossing the Narrow Sea trial has officially concluded.
This was our first Trial of Innovation as part of Game of Domains, designed to put the Autonomys Cross-Domain Messaging (XDM) system through real-world testing - and our community delivered.
Over the course of the trial, a multitude of participants executed XDM transactions back and forth between the consensus chain and Auto EVM, allowing us to capture high-load scenarios, edge cases, and UX feedback across a wide range of conditions.
Here’s a snapshot of what the initiative surfaced:
- High RAM usage on operator nodes: Quickly identified and patched.
- 2-peer connectivity issue: Diagnosed before and resolved early in the trial.
- XDM bookkeeping bug: Where the XDM fee was being counted as the domain execution fee. Found and corrected thanks to the initiative.
- Missing withdrawal share price bug: Fixed and deployed.
- Slow block processing under load: Big performance improvements delivered but still being actively optimized.
- Astral staking indexer feedback: Led to a planned rework for improved UX and performance.
- XDM minting discrepancy: An issue identified when transferring from domains to consensus which was patched over a weekend within 48 hours of discovery.
- Snap sync issues on domains: Flagged for investigation and follow-up.
- Valuable UI and documentation feedback: Shared with the relevant teams for future improvements.
- WASM memory usage: As a final cherry on top, a memory allocation problem was identified in the closing hours of the contest that our engineers now have a bead on.
These findings would not have been possible without your participation. By jumping into the trial and pushing the system to its limits, you’ve helped us strengthen the network ahead of Mainnet Phase-2 and surfaced real issues that we’ve been able to act on immediately.
What’s next?
This was just the first of several upcoming trials as part of Game of Domains. Each is designed to stress-test and validate critical protocol features and reward the community for uncovering bugs, proposing improvements, and pushing our systems to their limits.
Rewards from Crossing the Narrow Sea will be calculated at the conclusion of the full Game of Domains campaign. The points earned are already recorded on-chain and will contribute to a share of the final AI3 pool.
Thank you to everyone who participated - and if you didn’t get a chance this time, stay tuned for the next Trial of Innovation.
Let the Game continue
