Game of Domains: Crossing The Narrow Sea

Kicking Off the First Incentivized Trial of Innovation

Update on Game of Domains: Next Steps and XDM Testing

Thank you to all our community members who’ve enthusiastically participated in Stage 0 of the Game of Domains! We have seen over 600 operators registered since it launched and your feedback has been instrumental, highlighting areas of Astral that require additional refinement. This feedback underscores precisely why Stage 0 was essential: to thoroughly test and perfect the staking experience before moving forward.

While we’re encouraged by the significant progress, we are committed to delivering a robust experience. To achieve this, we’ve decided to extend Stage 0 and postpone the start of Stage 1. We understand this may be disappointing to those eager to progress; however, we firmly believe that taking this extra time is crucial for ensuring a smooth and robust mainnet launch.

That said, we have an exciting and essential new step. Our first Trial of Innovation - Crossing the Narrow Sea. This targeted trial is critical and will occur before our Mainnet Phase-2 launch. Your participation will be pivotal in testing XDM transactions between the consensus chain and the Auto EVM domain, specifically:

  • Consensus → Domain transactions
  • Domain → Consensus transactions

Through this trial, community participants will have the opportunity to directly influence the wallet UX improvements, providing critical insights and gaining firsthand experience with XDM functionality.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and patience as we refine these important components. The enthusiasm and contributions of our community have been invaluable, and your continued support remains crucial as we move forward.

How to Cross the Narrow Sea

In this community challenge, you’ll put XDM to the test by executing cross-chain transfers between the consensus chain and the Auto EVM domain and back again. Every successful XDM transfer will earn your wallet a point, letting you directly contribute to strengthening the network’s interoperability while earning a share of the reward pool. Join us in exploring this groundbreaking technology, help us validate its performance, and earn points with every transfer you complete. Points will be converted to AI3 at a rate to be determined once Game of Domains is over.

To learn more about XDM and how to execute a Cross Domain Messaging transfer, please check out our guide Cross Domain Messaging (XDM) Guide.

Conclusion

Join us as we cross The Narrow Sea together! We have set sail by marking block 1,740,677 with a system.remark to get the ball rolling so any XDM transactions will now be eligible for rewards. Your participation in this critical XDM trial not only directly impacts the readiness of Autonomys Mainnet Phase-2 but also puts you at the heart of innovation within our community. If you encounter any challenges or have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out on Discord or post directly on this forum. We’re here to support you every step of the way. Your involvement is essential - let’s continue building together!

Can you elaborate further how team will record exactly who made each cross domain transaction and later, reward to the right person?

XDM transactions are all recorded on-chain. We have not finalised the mechanics of the reward distribution process as yet.

So AI3, as reward of each Tx and at a rate that will be decided later, will be sent to the wallet that triggered the Tx?

Another question, if a wallet triggers 1000 Tx, will it be rewarded 1000x more than another wallet that triggers only 1 Tx?

Thank you Jim.

only consensus to Auto EVM ? can’t Auto EVM to consensus?

Our current plan is that each XDM transfer earns a point. Those points will earn a proportional amount of the reward pool allocated to Crossing the Narrow Sea. Which will be an amount of the Trials of Innovation pool (1,000,000 AI3) to be determined when Game of Domains is over.

There are more details about the reward plans for the Trials of Innovation here.

And you’re very welcome.

Hi Jim,
Great game, How long will the event take ?
thanks,

Yes, this is mentioned in the guide. We are working on an update to have Astral distinguish between Substrate and EVM wallets. I will update the guide when that is released.

yes. I use the Metamask wallet and Token pocket. It cannot be linked correctly

Have you tried Talisman?

This will be determined by the engineering team - when they are comfortable we have tested everything satisfactorily we will set an end block. Remember we are here to find bugs and edge cases so there may need to be updates released along the way.

And thanks!

I am willing to give it a try. But I estimate the effect will be similar.
